Ingredients:

  • 1 can chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small tomato, chopped
  • 1 green chili pepper, chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (coriander) leaves
  • 1 tablespoon chaat masala (spice blend)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind chutney (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon mint chutney (optional)
  • Sev (crispy noodles) for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chickpeas, chopped onion, chopped tomato, chopped green chili pepper (if using), and chopped cilantro.
  2. In a separate small bowl, mix together the chaat masala, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  3. Sprinkle the spice mixture over the chickpea mixture and mix well.
  4. Add the lemon juice and toss to coat evenly.
  5. If using, add the tamarind chutney and mint chutney and mix well.
  6. Transfer the Chana Chaat to a serving bowl and garnish with sev (if using).
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Note: You can adjust the spice level and seasoning according to your taste preferences. You can also add other ingredients like boiled potatoes, cucumber, or pomegranate seeds to the Chana Chaat if desired.
